Thanks for the comment, when I did Marcy it was raining all day, by the time I summited it was sleeting!! The mist made for a couple good pictures.
Question: do the pictures for this subject have to be taken now?

I saw this tree through the wood in Oxbowl Park today; because the spiral tree is dead it really stood out!
It really is a tree and not a vine!

I've seen that sort of thing happen before on trees. You're sure that's definitely another tree spiraling up like that and not a vine? I always assumed it was a vine that did that.

I'm 85 - 90% sure that its a tree, when I was playing with the zoom to get a picture you could tell it was a tree. When vines die they normally don't get that light and their vanes show up more.
Next time I'm in the area I'll double check.

Jim's photo reminded me of this black cherry on our property. I suppose that if you can't outgrow your neighbors, you have to be creative to survive! I apologize for the brightness of the background. We don't get many falls days better than today!

Not far from that tree grows my favorite tree on the property. It's a huge shagbark hickory. Its DBH has to be 3'. Not the best of conditions to shoot in, but I have to grab the opportunities when I can.
I was playing around with a couple of other photos that I took of this tree:
and looking up (almost abstract):
