I'd love to see some of those shots. I think the Poestenkill dam may have broke. They were quite worried about it at one point.

I work at a powerplant on the postenkill creek. Not sure which dam they were talking about. My company secured some grants a few years ago and we rebuilt the dam that is on Brunswick Ave right near the mudslide that took out some houses. Our dam that forms our intake you can see it from the Pawling Ave bridge is 100yrs old. We have done repairs over the years but the dam did hold. If it did fail there isn't that much water that it holds back and wouldn't be much of an impact. I believe there may be another dam upsteam somewhere but not sure, I would like to know which dam they were talking about failing. No one ever contacted my company about the current state of our dams at all.

Here is a pic of the School Street Power Plant at the Cohoes Falls. I wanted to do a sunset pic of the falls but the water was moving so fast they were just a blur and I didn't want to push my iso that high to get the shot without the motion of the water.

Amazing shot. I saw the notice posted about the photo contest, but any of my shots aren't nearly as good as yours. I've just never been there when there was good light, yeah that's it :D

Thanks LGD but one thing I have learned about photography is that everyone has there own perspective on what is a great shot. I think that is what makes photography or art such a great thing that crosses over to many different types of people. Someday you should go view the Cohoes Falls from the Waterford side of the river. I could point out the entrance to a few of the trails that lead you there. You can acutually walk all the ways up to the next dam near the Colonie landfill. Lots of birds hang around up in the flats on top of the falls at times if your interested in wildlife shots also.

On our way to the ADKs we stopped at Cohoes to have lunch and enjoy the falls. The water level was low and there was a chance of storms so the river bed was closed, but the stairs were open.

I unexpectedly ended up here at dusk on my birthday this fall.
