After the picnic Julie and I went over to Silver Lake Outlet to check out the falls there. It's about 5 miles north of where we were for the picnic. Definitely not the first bridge like I told you, Matt! We had been there before but hadn't seen the larger falls downstream. The trail goes through a lot of interesting ruins in the woods. The sign says there was a village called Gibsonville there from 1825-1900.

I thought this might have been a trough for cattle to drink water from?

This is the larger falls on Silver Lake outlet. It's about a half mile walk downstream from the main park road. The creek goes through a firly deep gorge to the left of this picture.

This is just upstream from the park road. Abutments of a former bridge are in the background.

Oh, it's on the Gibsonville trail. I've been meaning to hike that, but I just got too busy.

Apparently the trail goes all the way down to river level. We didn't go that far though.

Thank you for your kind words and the warm welcome. I know I'm going to enjoy it here.

Here's a photo I took at Letchworth two years ago when I finally happened to be there when a train crossed over the trestle at the upper falls. Not great quality, but fun just the same.
