This is a private school run by a church. Fortunately,I don't think public schools can do this. For now.

Yes, unfortunately in this day and age, crazy sometimes IS rational.

I think the final paragraph in the article makes a great point...

"It's better than having a 'gun free zone sign' which, to criminals, basically translates to 'This means that you have more time to shoot up the school before police arrive.'" commented user Robotyc.

Waiting for the eventual "armed staff shooting up a school" story. School staff are people capable of emotions in the realm of crazy too.
I'm pretty sure there are some districts out there where teachers would pop off a few troubled kids if they had a gun handy.
Cops, who are more than just trained on how to shoot a gun, stationed at schools is probably a wiser choice. But expensive.

Anyways.. what I find hilarious about that sign is...well.. why a rifle with a scope?
The story? well.. "Christian Academy"-- ah, just what Jesus did... carry a gun when he taught. Turn the other cheek? How about a turn of the cylinder on this .44, punk?

On the paranoia side, the chances of someone walking into that particular school and shooting it up on a particular day... is well... less than any of those kids getting struck my lightening. How many lightening rods are installed around the campus I wonder. It's a bit of an overreaction. I wonder why they would be so proactive about this issue.

This is very true. Never would happen at a private school though. (for obvious reasons)
