The purpose of these challenges is to encourage us to get out and get the best shot of an assigned subject. It's a great way to enhance your photography skills.
Even if you think you take crappy pictures, please join in. Those of you just reading the forum and not posting, this is your chance to join in and show off.

What is an Animated GIF?
An animated gif is an image, of the GIF format (instead of JPG), that has two or more frames. They can loop, or play through just once. The timing in-between frames can be adjusted. The only limitation with gif files is that they have a maximum of 256 colors.

How do I make an animated GIF?
You can make an animated gif by snapping multiple still frames and stitching them together
or
by filming a short video clip and converting it.

I have my photos or video. What do I do next?
There are plenty of Animated GIF Makers on the web. Here are a few:
http://www.myspacegens.com/handler.php? ... matedimage
http://picasion.com/
http://makeagif.com/
Google for more

Or you can download and install some free software:
Microsoft GIF animator
Easy GIF Maker (trial)
Fast AVI to GIF Converter 2.8

Or you can use the software you already have:
Photoshop How-to

What does the GIF have to be of?
Anything.

This month's challenge: "Animated Gif"
Image

Only rules:
It has to be taken by you.
It has to be taken in Upstate NY.

A winner will be selected based on the following criteria:
-freshness (have we seen it somewhere before or did you take it just for this challenge? - we prefer the latter!)
-frames
-subject
-creativity
-use of color (or lack thereof)
-uniqueness

Is everyone intimidated by GIFs?
It's not that hard. Two frames, and you are pretty much there. More frames? better.

Here's one of me taken at random times and places over the last year.

That's actually really, really cool! But did you not smile once the whole year? :P

Keep forgetting this one. Here's a few quickies I have laying around.

Question, when I attach images to a post, and want them inline, that's easy enough to do, but is there a way to get rid of the "Attachments" at the bottom of the post with the ugly white box around it? I don't see a way in the edit post dialog. I'd rather have this attachment inline and looking nice, without the attachments repeating it again at the bottom of the post.

Yes, if you place inline the very attachment, it will not show up at the bottom= you have to hit that button.

hmmm. Thanks. I was editing another post and that didn't seem to be the case. Let me look at it again. I'm trying to get as much of my stuff off Imageshack since it tends to lose pictures all the time, and get them as attachments.
