I picked up a half-B of Cortlands from Herman's (webster) over the weekend. Some of the biggest apples I have ever seen.
Really tart this year. I'm thinking of making a batch of caramel apples out of these. Good start to the season.

I'm eating big 'ol honeycrisps until I can get cameos in October. Maybe I'll check Herman's selection of apples. Schutt's (Webster/Penfield) cortlands were crap. Their oatmeal, walnut, cranberry cookies, however, are fabulous.
Anyone have a favorite apple or combo of apples (locally grown only) for pie? I have good luck with Jonagolds - but always want to try new ones. I prefer softish, not crunchy apples in my pie.

Pretty good stuff. Tart and not too sweet. 3.99 for a gal.
I'll be taking less trips to Herman's.
