I have been adding some clover honey I bought at the public market to plain chobani and that has gotten me off of the fake fruit altogether. I love it.
Added a lot more honey, mixed well and used it as a fruit dip at a party. Works with apple, melons, strawberries (especially), but not pineapple. It was a hit and no one thought it was yogurt.

I need more local gift ideas!
One note on gift cards... which I hate giving... most people pick up those chain store cards that you can easily buy at any chain supermarket. Try to stay away from giving those this year. Why buy a card for Olive Garden or Famous Dave's when you can get a card to a local place like Dinosaur/Sticky Lips BBQ or Basil. There are so many great local places.
I wish Seneca Farms was not closed for the season. I know someone who would love a gift card to it.

Another great idea for gifts (especially for out-of-staters_:

I brought a lot of these to china and they were very intrigued by the flavor and origin of maple.

mentioned in the other topic:
I don't buy trees anymore, but when I did, I bought from Pete's Tree Farm, which was considerably more expensive than buying from Home Depot, but considering these trees are grown in upstate (vs most trees, which are in shipped form Canada) they are fresher and I'm supporting a local business.

The website is certainly worth a look for the design alone.
The Holley Location is cheaper and has more trees.
If your intent is to buy a locally grown tree, be careful as a lot of farm markets will just resell Canadian trees. Look for an actual tree farm that specializes in trees.
