okay, from what i'm reading, inflatable kayaks are not great for open water- they are a bitch to paddle. So those are out for the finger lakes stuff I want to do. I guess I'll have to explore getting hard shell kayaks and a mount for the car. There are foldable models but they seem pricey.

One year when we rafted at Zoar Valley my bro-in-law Andrew and I were in a 2-person thing they called a funyak, which was inflatable. It was actually extremely maneuverable. It was more like an inflatable raft like we were in a few weeks ago except almost as narrow as a regular kayak... but not quite. Our legs were exposed and not covered like they would be in a kayak. Maybe contact Adventure Calls and ask about that?
