Two weeks from today at this time, I'll be in the chair!!! :yay: The only thing that scares me is how addictive everyone says that it is! 8) I wouldn't think you're a freak, gardengirl. The one thing that I will say is that the folks I've seen with a lot of work on their faces/heads make me uncomfortable because it's difficult to not stare at them. I'm honestly not sure if that's actually what they want. I mean, why make a statement with your head if you don't want people to look at it.

If any of these people showed up on one of our outings, would you shun them simply because of how they look - or would you at least give them a chance? That's really all I'm saying. They're people who made a sequence of choices that you or I would not make. So what? They surely won't get jobs as doctors, lawyers, pharmacists or police officers - but that has no bearing on your life - and it doesn't make them stupid.

I'm not religious in any way, shape or form - but I do think every human deserves the benefit of any doubt until they've intentionally hurt me or someone else.

Would I be shunned? I get stares all the time. As I said in my other post, I have lots of tattoos according to you guys. My left leg from ankle to knee is almost covered, the right has a band and a celtic knot. My lower back has some symbols, my upper back has chinese characters, my arms are working on going from shoulder to elbow. I have three on my chest. A good size one on my right thigh and there will be another on my left. No piercings though. I had my nose done years ago but it bothered me a bit, I think I may have been allergic to the metal, I wish I had changed to titanium to see if it got better. Walking aorund the hudson valley where the yuppies are plentiful they look at me like I'm a freak. Really? I have a great job (I'm a dean's assistant at a prestigious college,) I pay my taxes, I donate money to charity, I garden, I'm normal. Just because I feel the need to express myself doesn't mean I'm stupid or an idiot. My husband is covered in tattoos as well, he's a web master and getting his MLIS (he will have two masters degrees,) no one is that bothered by him. Of course the archivist from RPI (I think that's where he was from) took a double take or two, but once he started talking with my husband he loved him and got along great.

And just another tidbit, my dentist, dr, and pharmacist all have small somewhat visible tattoos. My mother had small ones on her ankles when she worked for social services and the ARC. My father had them on his forearms when he worked for the department of corrections and the county. All good jobs.

Basically never judge. If you saw me on the street you'd stare and automatically hate me for how I look. And those of you who know me here know that that is a rash harsh judgment of me.
I think body tattoos are perfectly acceptable... when they cross into face region, and/or people take on mutilations to the face, which undeniably is the focal point for human expression, impression and imprinting, then i begin to question their decision-making abilities-- that is all.

I'm hesitant about the face. I'd like some but I do worry what people would think. I saw someone (maybe that chick on TV- can't remember her name) has stars around her eyes (among other face tattoos) I could see getting that.

sometimes I love people staring. I do admit that I like scaring some of the tourists/new locals. I like proving to people that someone who works in a library can have a secret under their clothes. I have glasses, my hair in a bun and I'm covered in tattoos underneath. It's like being a superhero without the cool powers! I love people asking questions about them and wanting to see them closer. I like showing them off and telling people where I got them and what they symbolize or mean to me.

Now what I don't like is the glares. There is a HUGE difference between a stare and a glare.

i think when you cross the face/mutilation boundary, stares turn to glares.... you won't know for sure that until you do, unfortunately.

I have tattoos as well gardengirl, six of them which to some may seem like a lot and to others it is hardly any. Point is I got them for me, and I really dont give a hoot what anyone else thinks of them, or me. Chances are if I offened you from a distance I will probably offend you a whole lot more up close and personal :) I work as a medical transcriptionist in a health care facility, and it is not uncommon for one of the doctors to ask me if I have anything new that they can see..

I honestly wasn't going to bother posting anything, since this thread seems to be more of a display of the more bizzare things people can find for tattoos, but would like to see some of your artwork if you care to send me the photos in a pm.
