I don't discriminate - no meat of any kind for me.

That said, as a horse owner, they have special standing. There is a bond that develops between horse and owner that is as strong as a dog and owner. Because every horse is capable of this, I could never justify slaughtering a horse for food. I also think this provides a convenient option for the racing industry to use up an animal and dispose of it, instead of building the cost of long term care for retired horses into their cost structure.
