Found this place completely by accident today. If you ever find yourself driving through Dutchess County . . . it's well worth the hike back. Even with the wrong kind of foot gear, I don't regret the time and effort spent on the trek!

Located here

Someone else's great photos . . .

Yeah, it was beautiful and I know my pictures won't be as nice as the ones I linked to, but I'll have some to share in a few days.

Psssh! Those are great Kelly! You should have shared those first! The best footwear you have, is whatever you have on your feet at the moment of discovery.

Wow, nice shots. This place looks cool, our own little slot canyon, think I might have to make the trip down there sometime.

Funny story, and how we found it by accident.....

Driving through this little village, we spotted one of those blue and yellow historical markers. Stopped to read it. It read "Dover Stone Church" with an arrow pointing "somewhere". No parking is available on site, so we found some little parking lot beside a building and headed off to find this church.

We followed signs and paths and kept looking for this old stone church. Wondered if any of it still remained. Didn't see any sign of a church. Kept walking on really well maintained grounds figuring the paths led somewhere.......walked some more, heard water flowing. Eventually found the cavern and the falls.....and thought how neat it would have been to have attended church next to the falls - but what a long walk/ride it would have been for churchgoers to have traveled from what is now the main road. And why was there no marker where the church once stood? Took photos, enjoyed the hike.......

Got back to the hotel and googled Dover Stone Church and had that lightbulb moment.

:poke: :heehee: OH! The cavern is the "church"! Too funny - and a great memory!
