This is a nice, seasonally powerful, and somewhat deceptive falls located pretty much right in Sherburne. I say "seasonally powerful" because I've heard that it nearly dries up in the warm summers, however all three times I've been there it's been flowing very strongly. I say "deceptive" because the easiest access -- and the one that most people tend to stop at -- is on a footbridge across the gorge right above the brink, and from this bridge the falls looks to be about 20ft high at maximum. The bridge itself is a good 30ft or so above the water, and that drastically alters perspective of the true height of the falls. I've seen this listed at 75ft. I'm going to say it's not quite that high; I'm estimating somewhere near the lower end of 50-60ft.

The more adventerous of us can find fairly easy access to the gorge just below the falls where a tributary creek flows in, then take a 5 minute creek walk back up to the base of the falls. The wind was _really_ whipping the mist around today, so I didn't get too many good shots from below. Those I did get look like soft focus shots because of the mist. Kinda gives an eerie effect to the scene if you ask me. :)

Another shot from the bridge. I colored in two green squares to show where I was standing while taking the shots from below. Crossing the creek was a somewhat tricky task -- the water was very cold, the current was quite strong, and the rocks were pretty slippery. I was in up to a little past mid calf and was taking it very slow and steady as I crossed even the shortest hops. I took a change of clothes with me and left them in my car, so I knew I was only 5 minutes away from warm, dry clothing. Knowing that made me a little more apt to go ahead and get in the water, and made the cold water just a tad more bearable. :)

A great day, tho a little cold and wet, but fun nonetheless. I've been wanting to get this falls posted for a while, just haven't had the chance to go get decent shots til today.

Another nice set Andy! Definately deceiving looking down on the falls vs looking straight at them. If time allows I might try to go back next week and make the creek approach...although after getting up at 4am to go sit in a tree stand for 4 days in what is looking to be a very cold week chances are unlikely.

Thanks again Kyle! If you've got an evening free while you're in the area, let me know! I'm looking to have one last roaring campfire and "camp dinner" before I pack it in for the season, and I was considering doing so at one of my favorite spots up in that area. (Ludlow Creek State Forest - I've posted about it here before) Figure to be out of the woods around 9pm.
