The Google Earth image looks interesting. Looks like a rapids in the Mohawk River with the Erie Canal going around it. There seems to be a manmade falls downstream. Seems like a nice place to visit.

A little bit o' history...

I wouldn't make a special trip just for the waterfalls but if you're in the area I'd check it out.

Little Falls is a "city" on the Mohawk River and Erie Canal. The "Little Falls" is basically just rapids in the Mohawk River... there is also a dam with a falls. There are also two other falls in the area - Buttermilk Falls and Miracle Mile Cascade. I grew up in Herkimer (the next town to the west) and never knew about these two falls until I bought Russel Dunn's book Mowhawk Region Waterfall Guide. I recently went and took some pictures and I have some posted in my gallery:

Miracle Mile Cascade (much bigger but didn't post the full shot): http://www.betterphoto.com/gallery/big. ... rID=239735

Buttermilk Falls looks like a very pretty falls. So how many Buttermilk Falls do we have documented in NY now? I can think of 4 off the top of my head.
