The History of....Historical Markers

I've noticed in my travels that most markers erected by the state (vs local townships or organizations) were erected during or before the year 1932. In my curiosity of such, I searched around the web and found this...

I see... that would explain why those markers at the rest stops are so far removed from the events/things they describe.
