I also have a goal of kayaking the length of every Finger Lake.
oh, now that would be a cool idea!
I'm going to read more... probably buy one of those guide books and learn as much as I can about kayaks and kayaking spots before I buy.
I think Footprint Press has a Western NY paddling guidebook.

I bought the two NY paddling books. I'll let you know if they have any good info.

The "other" boat. About to get splashed by me. As Nate eyes me suspiciously.

At Paddler's Cascade. This is the very last falls on Wolf Creek before it enters the river.

okay, from what i'm reading, inflatable kayaks are not great for open water- they are a bitch to paddle. So those are out for the finger lakes stuff I want to do. I guess I'll have to explore getting hard shell kayaks and a mount for the car. There are foldable models but they seem pricey.

One year when we rafted at Zoar Valley my bro-in-law Andrew and I were in a 2-person thing they called a funyak, which was inflatable. It was actually extremely maneuverable. It was more like an inflatable raft like we were in a few weeks ago except almost as narrow as a regular kayak... but not quite. Our legs were exposed and not covered like they would be in a kayak. Maybe contact Adventure Calls and ask about that?
