ADK this winter

Looking to take some smaller trips this year since we did Peru last summer (and we're going to do Australia and New Zealand for our honeymoon next Christmas time)...
Any of our resident ADK experts have some recommendations for places to go this winter where you can snowshoe and get some good mountain top panoramics for some nice winter photography? My ADK gallery is dangerously underpopulated. I think I have more pictures of Alaska than I do of a park in my own state!!

Of the high peaks I would recommend:
Cascade, Phelps, two short hikes with good views
Longer hikes Algonquin, Big Slide, Gothics, and Dial (dial has 1 viewing spot)
Non 46ers:
Hurricane, Ampersand, Blue Mt., Noonmark and Snowy,

There are many other short hikes along the routes to the Dacks.

These are the more common ones I can think of off the top of my head.

As for water falls just south of Long Lake is Buttermilk Falls. Roaring brook is on route 73 and any of the falls in the AMR land is easy to get to.

would the nearest place to lodge be Placid then?

Lake Placid would work for all but Snowy, Blue, and Buttermilk Falls.
Cascade Inn is nice, around $60.00 a night with a good restaurant on site; their rooms are nothing fancy two beds TV and bathroom.
