Anyone into it? It's something I've been working on - on and off - in my free time, since my early 20s. (Yes, that's right, excellent math - for about 10 years now! ;) )

Nowadays there are all kinds of exceptional websites that make it so much easier. But I started back when you had to travel and visit town offices and pay to get marriage licences and basic information. So much more efficient now. Anyways.....here's a cool template for a family tree. I purchased a huge version to fill in and frame for the wall, but am nervous about filling it in and messing it up. Maybe this winter. It will be awesome to see the final result of so many years of sleuthing. I get a little nostalgic around the holidays and usually pull it out to work on it. Though this is my favorite template, you can find lots more just by Googling family tree template.

My mother does this for my family. All I do is help her set up the latest version of Family Tree Maker.

While researching something for New York Historic, I did find a pic of my first ancestor in the states, a Rochester cop:

Oh! That's neat. As much as I appreciate the work that was done before me, it's the feeling of discovering things like that on our own that makes it so rewarding - at least for me.

Now, if only it were possible to figure out exactly which ancestors are responsible for one of my kids having NO wisdom teeth at all, and one having 4.

I'd love to get into this some time... when I have the time.... i.e. never.

Anyway, here's my little bit of interesting western NY family history. My great great great grandfather built this house in Somerset, Niagara County.
