Bra Mask Wins The Ig Nobel Prize
http://www.missomnimedia.com/2009/10/m- ... -mask_001/ Designed by scientist Elena Bodnar, the gas mask bra is exactly what it says it is: a bra that doubles as a gas mask. The cups can be separated so that you can give a mask to a friend in need. While it sounds odd to strap a bra cup to your face, there’s a reason behind this apparent madness. Bodnar, originally from the Ukraine, witnessed the devastating effects of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant meltdown in 1986. Bodnar said if women had been wearing life saving bras instead of frilly cut ones, many people could have been saved from breathing in the deadly Iodine 131 that permeated the area. That gas was one of the major reasons behind the rise in cancer and other health problems in the region after the disaster.
Bodnar’s invention was one of the winner’s at the 19th First Annual Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony. Hosted by the Annals of Improbable Research, the honor scientific achievements “that first make people laugh, and then make them think.” So the next time someone asks if they can unhook your bra, keep in mind that it might not be just to cop some feels.
