Many pro-lifers reference Psalm 139:13-16 (I'll just quote the first verse for brevity).
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. Psalm 139:13 NIV
Not all pro-lifers support killing abortion doctors, nor do they all advocate violence against clinics. Many of us just believe in the sanctity of life and are deeply saddened by anyone who would choose to take the life of the most vulnerable.

I don't want to turn this into a long discussion about voting patterns or war or murder - this thread doesn't seem to be the appropriate place. I just wanted to address your question about why "church people" are against abortion.

Does Genesis trump Psalm on the creation of man and soul?

The Genesis passage is relating God giving life to the first man, which is a totally different topic than what Psalms is discussing.

Which came first: the chicken or the egg? I believe the chicken came first, the first time. But all future chickens come from eggs. Similarly, how the first man was created, or came to be, is not how future men/women come to be.

I really hope cell phones don't cause brain cancer, because I keep mine in my jeans pocket close to my most used brain.
