Rainbow Falls

This falls is absolutely stunning. Well over 100 feet tall. The water sprays into a mist as it bounces off different parts of the gorge wall. What's really odd geologically here is that as you follow the creek up the gorge to the falls, the gorge continues in front of you but there's no creek in it. The entire creek spills in off the gorge wall to the right. Maybe this stream changed course after an earthquake. This falls is very easy to find except its at the end of a 3.5 mile hike. It's on a tributary of the Ausable River that flows into the Ausable just as the river exits Lower Ausable Lake. It's then only a few 100 yards walk up Rainbow Falls creek to the falls.
there were lots of interesting close up shots to take here.
the "empty" gorge straight ahead...
a solitary tree hanging out over the gorge. This picture was taken pointing straight up...
moss clinging to the rocks immediately across from the falls. The plant life was thriving here from all the mist.
crystal clear water
