It's nice there this time of year. Hardly any people.

nice - I was with a bunch of college friends - so I didn't have any cute girls to pose for my shots. Sometimes a human elements adds tons to a picture. You obviously know Letchworth much better than I do. Some of those places I don't even know where they are in the park

Daytrip to Letchworth

Postby May » Tue Sep 18, 2007 5:24 pm

I told Matt that I would share my photos from my daytrip to Letchworth, so here they are:

They're not spectacular, I know. They were taken with just a little Cannon powershot - a camera more suited to snapshots at some friendly get-together than to capture the awesome majesty of nature. After seeing the photos everybody else posted, I would've thought better than to display these, but some of the shots aren't represented here (could possibly be because they don't make an interesting shot to begin with...).

After the picnic Julie and I went over to Silver Lake Outlet to check out the falls there. It's about 5 miles north of where we were for the picnic. Definitely not the first bridge like I told you, Matt! We had been there before but hadn't seen the larger falls downstream. The trail goes through a lot of interesting ruins in the woods. The sign says there was a village called Gibsonville there from 1825-1900.

I thought this might have been a trough for cattle to drink water from?

This is the larger falls on Silver Lake outlet. It's about a half mile walk downstream from the main park road. The creek goes through a firly deep gorge to the left of this picture.

This is just upstream from the park road. Abutments of a former bridge are in the background.

Oh, it's on the Gibsonville trail. I've been meaning to hike that, but I just got too busy.

Apparently the trail goes all the way down to river level. We didn't go that far though.
