I am fearless, because I've been afraid.
I am wise, because I've been foolish.

I actually DID just start thinking about this today.
What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lives within us. ~Henry David Thoreau

hmmm... I didn't really travel this year and barely looked at what I DID shoot. It's going to be tough. But I love this yearly topic and looking forward to seeing people's best.

As I take nearly all my pictures on bike rides and with winter descending so wrathfully upon us these past few days, I suspect I'll have little opportunity to take pictures that I might consider one of my best of this year. So here goes...
Half the pictures I took on my trip from Cumberland Maryland to Washington DC. I think I probably posted a fair portions of these under other topics too - my apologies for the repetitions.
The first is the C&O Canal Paw Paw Tunnel. Cut 3,000 feet through a mountain to avoid an alternative 15 mile route along the Potomac, the tunnel took far longer and far more money than anticipated. It delayed completion of the Canal. One might wonder if the alternate route might have been a better choice allowing the Canal to establish itself economically before the railroads became competitive.
The dot inside the tunnel entrance is the proverbial 'light at the end of the tunnel' coming through.
