A few stones, taken from the earth, shaped by man, then abandoned by him, now gradually returning to their natural state. Found in Partridge Run Game Management Area (southwest of Albany)

oh now that's an old-style dam... pioneer era? or do you think it was a modern day project?

Here's a view from the upstream side. There's no concrete or other modern materials, and a fair amount of silt piled up against the base of the dam on the upstream side. That leads me to think the dam's been there a while because the stream isn't all that big - so it seems it would take time to pile up that much silt against the dam. So, I'd guess in the 1800's. I haven't been able to find any information on its history though...

Compare to a 'modern' dam on another stream in Partridge Run. I think this was built by the CCC in the 1930's, and the construction differs greatly from the stone dam.

now that i see the thickness, It was definitely not done as a modern day project. That's a lot of effort there. Were there any signs of a mill foundation or a run nearby? I would say first half of 1800s. very cool.
