if you get traps, you will probably have to empty them ever morning, but if you have a pond, they make for great fish and frog food.

Empty the traps early before they warm up, that way the beetles are too slow to fly away.

The color was a very bright green.
Couldn't have been more than an inch-long body

Oh, hell no. Just like a grasshopper is a grasshopper and a cricket is a cricket in my world...
It's really tough to say without seeing a side shot (at least for me). There are over 200 species of the family Tettigoniidae in North America. The more that I looked, the more confused I became.
