At 9:00 this morning it was bright, sunny, and 22 degrees here. We still have a good 4" of snow covering everything. Mike happened to be looking out the window and he said that he saw a butterfly! I just laughed and told him that it had to be a leaf floating by. But then I saw it too! The camera was out here in the office, so I couldn't get a shot (what a photo that would have been) but it was a Mourningcloak: http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/lands_forest ... urning.pdf

I think this is a gray comma. Spotted him in March out this way on a nature trail....while I was looking for mourning cloaks.

I believe you're right about that being a gray comma. The wings on the eastern comma seem to have a wider divide between the front and the rear, but that's only from comparing photos.

Thanks Brenda and Matt
I took that with my 70-300 no cropping, I had a male Scarlet Tanager bathing in my pound, stream, waterfall so I sat on the porch trying to get his picture but couldn't
