Warsaw Falls

Postby Rick » Sun Sep 02, 2007 3:27 am

Found this online but couldn't find it here...

"On Stony Creek in the town of Warsaw, Wyoming County. Stony Creek is a tributary of Oatka Creek which flows into the Genesee River."

If it's not here and I'm not just being a dummy I think it should be added. Sounds like a nice place to check out.

I don't think I have it. They say it's on private property, which is a shame, but I guess consensus is that its acessible. I'm warry about this kind of stuff.
Here's and arial photo of it... it looks huge

I was unaware that this was private. I always assumed it was part of the town park that you walk through to get to the falls. As the site says, there are definitely no posted signs and maybe the landowners are indifferent to visitors. Maybe it'll be a good idea to try to contact them and ask if they would like a falls profile.

I just hiked this on Saturday. Great walk, even though it is very dry. No posted signs, and no indication as to who owns the property. Saw one other couple in there and they have been hiking it for over 10 years he said with no problems.

Thanks for the update. I'm hoping for a little rain and some good shooting weather for next weekend as I hope to get out there.

Great shot, by the way, and welcome to the forum.

proberts,
you inspired me to head out there today. It was an awesome hike with red maples leaves coating the ground and all the pools.

the water level was low, like when you where there. The falls certainly looks a lot differrent than with higher flow. I found shooting it from the side makes for better pictures. After rain, I'll have to head back and shoot again.

Awesome, I am also waiting for rain to go back, hopefully soon. Post some of your shots so I can see what good pictures look like :) When I was there there was a family over on the side I did not want to disturb so I was limited with angle options.

Some of the maple leaves on the way in:

I'm pretty sure I shot that same little drop. I'll post as soon as I get some time to go through the shots.

I found this shot burried in the wrong folder.
When I was hiking up to Warsaw Falls, I saw this little shack up high on the cliffs.

Warsaw Falls

Postby hobkyl » Mon Sep 08, 2008 11:12 am

Since I couldnt get my butt out of bed early enough to do the Watkins Glen thing, I found these falls listed on another website and decided to go check them out. This is a very easy creekwalkin Oatka Creek. It starts out on Liberty Street in the village of Warsaw at the village park. You follow a trail from the sledding slope and end up in the creek in a short distance. This might be a total of a mile hike up to the base of the falls, with small cascades along the way. The falls are estimated to be about 80' tall. If you are adventurous, you can scale up the right side and get some nice views of the falls as well as a small falls that empties from underneath a railroad bridge. Much like Corbetts. If you go up to the tracks, and make a left and follow the corn field for a hundred feet, you get a breathtaking view of the falls from above. Worth a visit!

Great photos of an excellent hike.

I have a profile in the works, but I'm stuck on ownership. I have heard that this is private, but the owners allow visitors (and I visited based on this). But I don't want to publish directions or false information, so I have been sitting on my photos. I wonder if I should just publish the photos and description sans directions/location?

Have you tried contacting the village of Warsaw? They may be able to give you ownership info.

I didnt see any no trespassing signs anywhere. The only sign I saw was for no hunting.

yeah... same here- I just don't want to turn someone's property into a tourist attraction. If I were to create a large web page based on it, it may do just that. And who know what problems it could cause for them.
i think I may proceed without directions and with disclaimers.

That stretch of creek is called Rock Glen. There's 2 or 3 (?) falls about 20 feet high in there. I'm not sure if the falls themselves have specific names. Scott Ensminger told me about this place. The creek is probably private property however the homeowner where Dutton Rd. crosses the creek (if you want to walk upstream) cheerfully allowed us access. This was about 4 years ago.

Doesn't private property need to be posted? I spent the majority of a day at these falls and the surrounding trails in the woods without coming across a single sign-other than "No Hunting". I don't understand what all the commotion is about regarding the property status there. There are 2 trails leading to the creek from the adjacent town park, and once again no signage.
