Tract along Watkins Glen creek preserved by Land Trust
The Finger Lakes Land Trust has acquired 139 acres of woodland along one of the creeks that creates the gorge at Watkins Glen State Park, the Ithaca-based organization announced Wednesday.

The Land Trust acquired the Town of Reading property from Scott and Cassie Dickerson, who sold the property for less than its estimated fair market value, with the help of an interest-free loan from the Norcross Wildlife Foundation.

The land is east of Schuyler County Route 21 and bisected by two lanes that serve as recreational trails and is close to a portion of the Finger Lakes Trail. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation sought to add the land to the adjacent Sugar Hill State Forest but lacked funding and asked for help from the Land Trust. The property includes frontage on Glen Creek, which flows into Watkins Glen State Park.
