Re: The Conservationist

... but a seven issue subscription by mail is only $10 -- a bargain. They had a nice pic of Watkins Glen on a recent cover, and also a recent item on Letchworth. It's also cool to know about other things to notice while waterfalling -- wildlife, geology, mountains, lakes, etc. In my opinion each of ...

Re: Dansville area... Ossian

... charged $5 total for one adult and two kids. We had the stream to ourselves on a warm summer evening. It was heaven after a day of many miles at Letchworth. By the way, Sugar Creek is the falls pictured on the cover of "200 Waterfalls" by Footprint Press.

Re: Letchworth State Park and trespass

I have to come down on the side of the park rangers regarding creek walking and other forms of trespass at Letchworth or elsewhere for that matter. The place gets a lot of people and lot of water. I was there for a week in August, 2006 and saw some pretty stupid stunts. It is ...

Re: Swimming Parks

The pool at Letchworth is horrible -- surrounded by concrete and chain link and absolutely packed with screaming kids. I don't even want to know what the bacteria count is. Much better to hike Letchworth all day, then drive over ...

Camping in the Niagara area

Does anyone know of a good campground in the Niagara area? The closest one I know of is Letchworth, which is two hours away.

Re: Who are you and what do you do?

... else I can squeeze in. My major trips have been -- Buttermilk Falls State Park, Ithaca, 2004; AuSable Chasm Campground, Adirondacks, 2005; Letchworth State Park, 2006; and to shake things up a bit, Ricker Pond State Park, Groton, Vermont, 2007. I have also done numerous waterfall trips ...

Wanted to sa Hello.

... stars (not predicting the future), and geocaching. The park has one small waterfall that dries up most summers. Most of my waterfall photos are of Letchworth and Niagara Falls, where I lived for a year.

Thank you for your kind words and the warm welcome. I know I'm going to enjoy it here. Here's a photo I took at Letchworth two years ago when I finally happened to be there when a train crossed over the trestle at the upper falls. Not great quality, but fun just the same. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j212/TBurd50/LetchworthTrain1.jpg

Had a good weekend, got 4 waterfalls done.
We went to Stonybrook, Letchworth, Wolcott Falls & Chimney Bluffs, then on the way home we stoped at Chittenango Falls. I posted pictures of Chittenango and Wolcott, will post the other two when I decide which ones to post.

One area of Letchworth I definitely want to explore is the Silver Lake Outlet. I've heard there's a bunch of falls on that stream. One with an island in the middle of it.

Hello from Ohio!

... get my license, and I will visit all these beautiful places in my home state. I joined mostly so that I could share with you all my photos from Letchworth. I was only able to go on a day trip. I feel like I didn't really get to see it at its best. The end of summer meant that the water level ...

I have a microfiber cloth that's almost like terri cloth... very absorbant- it can wipe up the lens in one swipe. So I keep on a cheap UV filter so I don't scratch the lens and then wipe and shot, wipe and shoot. Photoshop spot remover does the rest.
This worked great for Letchworth middle falls.

On a scale of 1 to 5...

How are the people at Watkins Glen about letting you roam off the path?

On a scale of 1 to 5 with LetchWorth being a 1 and Stony Brook being a 5?

I was Letchworth and almost got arrested but Stony Brook was a free-for-all, which I loved!

Thanks!
