Re: Buttermilk Falls on Oatka Creek

... suspect the ownership would have something to do with the exposed Onondaga limestone and possibly some other layers. The good news is that the falls itself may not be privately owned and that the DEC has (in the last 5 years) proposed that they would want to own this property as a unique area. ...

Matt, Thanks, it came out better than I hoped it would. If I find myself out here again, I would like to get one from the bottom. hobkyl, The first group of people I encountered asked me about getting arrested there. To which I had no reply as I knew nothing of the place other than it was on my topo...

Buttermilk Falls on Oatka Creek

I did not find a topic for this specific waterfall, if I missed it, please move this to it. I apologize for not climbing to the bottom but the situation on this day prevented it. Re: Buttermilk Falls - ADK

Thank you....I did visit this waterfall in October of 2008, as well as in August of 2008. Both times there were hardly any people there. It is truly amazing how one place can take on a whole different look at different times in the seasons. I have some shots of these falls on my website.

Re: Buttermilk Falls - ADK

Probably a combination of river volume and accessability. It's only a few 100 feet walk from the parking lot to the river. It's definitely not the most picturesque falls in the region but it's a nice place to visit.
